Whole Home Filtration System Consumption and use of clean, healthful and great tasting water is one of the most important steps you can take to live a long and fulfilling life regardless of your current age and physical condition. Costplus Water and its team of professionals are committed to providing the optimal water filtration system for your home by using the latest in treatment techniques, including our feature product the Melody point of use alkaline water system. Combined with unsurpassed technical support, laboratory testing services and customer service, Costplus Water is ready to become your personal team of water experts and help you decide the best treatment option to meet your needs.
The first step in the process of buying any water filtration system is to research existing water quality conditions, so the appropriate treatment solutions can be designed. An internet evaluation of available information was performed and the State of Indiana prepares an Annual Compliance Report for water supply systems. The most recent publication found was created by the State of Indiana in June of 2004 for the year 2003.
During the twelve months ending 12-31-03, 5,516 violations were discovered at 1,855 different water systems. Approximately 42% of the 4,425 water systems recognized by the State have a monitoring and reporting violation for at least one contaminant. Appearing on the list for specific violations are E. Coli bacteria, copper, nickel, zinc, sulfates, dissolved oxygen, dioxin, zinc, mercury and pesticides. These contaminants may or may not be present at your home, but the list provides a range of potential water quality issues that may need to addressed. Costplus Water strongly recommends testing if it has not been done in the past few years. Information on our laboratory testing services is attached as Appendix A.
Treatment Options
Water treatment systems have been traditionally differentiated by the terms Point-of-Entry (whole home) and Point-of-Use (under the counter or countertop). The fundamental difference between the two is the rate of flow (gallons per minute) and capacity (total gallons) of each type. Whole home systems are designed to treat large volumes of water. However, whole home treatment is somewhat limited to the type of contaminants that can be removed due to the need for it to treat large volumes of water at once. Conversely, for under the counter and countertop drinking water systems specialty water filters can be designed to treat virtually all known contaminants. Costplus Water incorporates the latest treatment techniques for both whole home and under the counter/c-top configurations to create cost effective solutions.

Carbon Captures Organics/Chlorine
One fundamental component of virtually every drinking water system is carbon adsorption. Fine carbon particles act like tiny magnets to capture harmful particles. Costplus Water systems use catalytic carbon for removal of chloramines (if present), which also effectively removes organics, volatile organics, hydrogen sulfide and various pesticides. Granular Activated Carbon is universally accepted as the best method for objectionable taste and odor removal. Carbon also has an inherently vast surface area, so filters can treat relatively high volumes of water before replacement. A water molecule that travels through a ½ column of carbon is the equivalent of us driving a car through a 25 mile-long carwash! Each of the five filters in the whole home system are 20 long!
Carbon Filtration is a perfect fit for whole home applications due to its ability to remove a wide variety of unwanted particles in water. Catalytic carbon is combined with another compound called KDF that works well for heavy metal removal.
The systems come in a variety of sizes, and for the flow rates required in your home; the unit recommended is 39 tall x 12 in diameter. The filters are placed inside the multiple cartridge vessel (see photo on left). Inside the vessel, the 20 carbon/KDF filters are housed in a parallel configuration and each of the five filters have a capacity of 30,000 gallons (150,000 gallon system capacity). Typically, each person in the home averages approximately 100 gallons per day. The system is under warranty for one year, but operates without any moving parts avoiding premature wear and/or leakage. Installation services are available and the system is installed where the water enters the house, normally in the garage.
Drinking Water Systems
ALKALINE WATER technologies, and their wide variety of health benefits, have been known for over 30 years in Japan. Starting at birth, our bodies are continuously trying to dispose of acidic waste caused by stress, air pollution and 99+% of all food consumed in a typical diet. Smoking, consumption of red meat, egg yolks and breads are just a few specific examples of actions that create high volumes of acidic waste. Unless all acid consumed is eliminated through breathing, sweating (exercise) or urinating, it begins to build up in blood. Increased acid cannot be tolerated in our blood, so the body uses homeostasis to maintain it at a constant 7.34 pH. Excess acid in our bodies is transformed to a solid resulting in a build up of fatty acids (body fat), cholesterol and uric acid (kidney stones) and other ailments as we age.
Ionization Diagram
Continued acid build up will affect all of us differently. Based on genetics, the acid can attack specific areas of the body and is now being linked to possibly contributing to C, diabetes and other serious illness. One potential way to counterbalance the acid build up is to consume foods rich in alkaline minerals and drink alkaline water.
Alkaline water systems adjust the pH of drinking water by applying positive and negative charges on opposite sides of an electrolysis chamber creating two water products, one alkaline (high pH) and one acidic (low pH). As the h2O molecule (2 hydrogen and one oxygen atoms) passes through the chamber, one positive hydrogen ion (h+) is diverted to the acidic side, and the other hydrogen atom bonds with the oxygen molecule (Oh-) and is diverted to the alkaline side of the chamber. The alkaline water has tremendous health benefits and is for internal consumption. The unique combinations of Oh- ions act as a powerful antioxidant and flood the body looking for acidic (positively charged) ions. When acid, h+ is found the Oh- creates a water molecule again (h2O) and is flushed out of the body. The acidic water produced by the water ionizer has unbelievable cleaning benefits and is for external uses including skin, hair and mouthwash to mention just a few. The alkaline water system used by Costplus Water is manufactured by Royal Water. An under the kitchen sink configuration is also available which includes a custom colored designer faucet.
As previously mentioned, a wide variety of pre filters are available for the alkaline water system. Costplus Waters most requested prefilters include arsenic, fluoride, nitrates, iron, lead, high quality sediment, carbon, and bacteria removal. Once test results have been received a custom designed prefiltration system can be designed. The systems normally consist of one, two or three stages and measure 10 x 2.5.
